The BFC Council held its February 2022 meeting via Zoom on Tuesday February 15th, from 7:30 to 9:30pm.

The meeting followed the usual format – starting with a check-in round, and our first order of business – the BFC financial review, provided by Rob Kitchens, our current Finance Committee representative.  Good news: although tithing was down in January, a good finish to 2021 has allowed us to stay in the black for now.

We continued on with a review of our other committee reports. Council members serve on a number Committees, including Sunday Service, Sunday School, Kodan, Communications, Youth Ministry, Outreach and so on.

Next on the agenda was our Pastor’s Update, given by Pastor Justin. It was a very good snapshot of BFC goings-on, and we all felt inspired about the progress being made in a number of areas in our community.

If you’ve been reading “The Council Corner” you know we have been working towards passing an investment proposal for BFC funds. More good news: the investment proposal (drafted under the advice and guidance of finance experts Tim Watters and Marcus Karr) was finally passed during this meeting!

Discussion continued on finding a Young Adult Activities Coordinator for BFC. It’s been challenging – so far we haven’t had any takers. So we talked about how to better advertise in a few other venues, and increase our word-of-mouth campaign. All sorts of ideas sprang up for getting the word out about our search, and we hope by our next meeting to have some candidates to fill this role.

Our final topic for the night was about “Effective Volunteering”. One of the top issues our various BFC groups have to deal with is having enough people to make our activities successful. We’d like to have more of a “volunteer culture” with more people stepping up to the plate when needed. We talked about the main obstacles in getting volunteers. It was an interesting session – this will be an ongoing topic that will eventually lead to some action steps.

We encourage community members to observe Council meetings. Generally the Council holds its meetings on the third Tuesday of every month. Our next meeting will be held on March 15th, 2022, from 7:30 to 9:30. If you’d like to participate, just let us know at least a week before the meeting, by sending an email to council@belvederefamily.com.
